Craig McLeland

C. Craig McLeland, the third son of Harvey L. and Ida Starr McLeland, was born October 7, 1903, on a farm south of Milton, Iowa, and departed this life April 1, 1983, at Scotland County Nursing Home, Memphis, Missouri, after an illness of several years.

On October 5, 1935, he was united in marriage to Marguerite Jones. To this union a daughter and a son were born.

When he was a small child, the family moved to Palisade, Nebraska, where they resided until 1911, when they returned to Van Buren County, Iowa. With the exception of a few months in Illinois, the remainder of his life was spent in the Van Buren County, Iowa and Scotland County, Missouri areas, where he farmed. In 1973, the family moved to Arbela, Missouri. In August 1980, he became a resident at the Scotland County Nursing Home.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marguerite, his daughter, Joanne Aylward, of Arbela and son, Dale, of Arbela and two grandchildren, Michael and Ellen Aylward, also of Arbela. Also surviving are a sister, Edna Robinson and husband, J.C. of Milton, Iowa, two brothers, Leith, and wife, Frances, of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Robert and wife, Madeline, of Douds, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Valera Mumford, of Keosauqua, Iowa, and a brother-in-law, Guy Ornduff, of Pulaski, Iowa and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, James, Kenneth and Junior; two sisters, Ve Ornduff and Blanche Younker and a son-in-law, Marion Aylward.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 4, 1983, at 1:30 pm. in the Payne-Gerth Funeral Chapel, Memphis, Missouri. The Rev. Ron White and Ellen Krueger officiated. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril, Iowa. Body bearers were Calvin Kraus, Dennis Kraus, Dick Stevenson, Gerald Brunk, Eldon Dice and Ivan Reisch.
