Freda Mathews

Mrs. Freda Mathews, 48, of Lamar, Ark., died Thursday, September 6, when the tractor-trailer rig cab in which she was riding went out of control and overturned near Seibert, Colo. at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Mathews was pinned under the cab and officials worked several minutes to free her body. Her husband, Glen, was driving the rig when a front tire blew out, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which went onto the median and overturned.

Mathews was injured in the single-vehicle accident. Both were truck drivers for Bray Trucking Company of Cushing, Okla.

She was born April 16, 1931 in Appanoose County to Harry and Minnie Scott.

Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons, Steve of Clarksville, Ark., Mike, David and Jim all of Lamar, Ark., her mother, Mrs. Minnie Scott of Bloomfield, four brothers, Verlyn Scott of Bloomfield, Charles Scott of Agency, Gene Scott of Ottumwa and Richard Scott of Alma, Ark. Three sisters also survive, Mrs. Darlene Brown of Lamar, Ark., Mrs. Virginia Schmoker of Clarksville, Ark. and Mrs. Shirley Talbott of Bloomfield and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Clarksville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roy Paynor, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery at Clarksville, Ark. under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Gary Scott, Mark Scott, Ricky Scott, Patrick Scott, Dennis Scott and Kelvin Brown.
