Waldo E. Jannings

Waldo E. Jannings, son of Walter and Nettie Harper Jannings, was born January 10, 1911 in Henry County and died early Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1989 at Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield, at the age of 78.

Waldo grew up in Henry and Lee Counties, farmed in Davis County and for many years in Van Buren County near Milton, and retired to Troy in 1971. In addition to general farming he raised and sold popcorn.

He was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church.

Waldo married Lorraine Blakely March 26, 1938 in Keosauqua. She remains to cherish his memory with their son, Jerry and his wife, Verna of St. Charles, Missouri and five daughters, Lois Bradley and her husband, Don of Milton, Sharon Johnson and her husband, Darryl of Mason City, Nancy Zeitler and her husband Fred of Douds, Vicky Besco and her husband, Mike of Davenport, and Julie Buttell and her husband, Mike of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Russell of Cherokee Village, Arkansas and Rex of Ft. Madison, other relatives and friends. Two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 17, 1989 at 1:30 P.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, with Rev. Carl Wilson officiating. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. A memorial was established for Davis County Hospital.
