Nellie Ingersoll

Nellie Evelyn Blodgett Ingersoll, the youngest of eight children, was born to George and Davis Smoot Blodgett on September 3, 1906, and passed away at the Burlington Medical Center on November 23, 1975, being at the time of her death 69 years, two months, 17 days of age.

Her mother passed away when she was 2 1/2 years of age and she and her father made their home with uncles Jake, John and Tom and aunt, Tabitha Blodgett, at the Blodgett home south of Downing.

When she was 13 years old she united with the Downing Christian Church later transferring her membership to Memphis and then to Burlington, Iowa Church.

On September 22, 1926, in the Christian Church parsonage at Lancaster, the Rev. George W. Rector united in marriage Nellie Blodgett and Earl Ingersoll. Three children were born to this union, Ruby, George and Jenell.

On February 21, 1958, she was preceded in death by her husband. She moved to Burlington to be near her children and for four years she worked as an aide in the St. Francis Hospital.

Her son George Edward of Burlington, passed away March 9, 1970. In addition to her husband and son she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters.

Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. William (Ruby) Walker of Burlington, Mrs. Ralph G. (Jenell) Thomas of Warren, Pennsylvania, two sons-in-laws, her daughter-in-law, Hazel Unglesbee, Burlington, Iowa, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Elsie Simmons of Riolto, California, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Zoda Blodgett of Kirksville, and Mrs. Ellie Blodgett of Bluford, Illinois, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
