Mrs. Nettie Gibson Hoskins

Mrs. Nettie Gibson Hoskins, daughter of Reuben and Mary Gibson, was born Sept. 27, 1992 at Milton, Iowa and passed away at 4:10 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1965 at the Mercy Hospital in Davenport at the age of 83 years, one month and 15 days. She grew up in the Milton community and on July 31, 1921 was united in marriage to Frank Hoskins. To this union was born one son James. Others who were reared and cared for in their home were a niece Frankie Hyde, Cleo Augspurger and a nephew, William Cowherd.

For 35 years she and her husband operated a grocery store in Milton. Six years ago she moved from her home in Milton to Davenport. She was a member of the Milton Methodist Church. A charter member of the W.S.C.S., a 36 year member of the order of O.E.S. and active in the Legion Auxiliary and community life.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1952, one sister and four brothers. Those surviving are, the son, James, and daughter-in-law, Maxine, one grandson, Jimmie, of Davenport, two brothers, John Gibson of Milton, Alvin Gibson of Kalamazoo, Michigan; also two sisters-in-law, other relatives, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services were held Saturday, November 13, 1965 at 2 p.m. at the Wellborn Funeral Home in Milton with Rev. Herbert Phillips, pastor of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Sunnyside Cemetery.
