John Allen Holmes born in West Virginia April 18, 1849 & moved with parents to Van Buren Co., when he was one year old locating at Harrisborg [sic] Twp. Married Sept. 10, 1879 to Miss Olive Holmes & they lived near Mt. Ayr. 2 children Glen who died 6/25/1899 and Grace now Mrs. Lloyd E. Cornell of New York City. The Mother died in 1890. On June 1, 1892, Mr. Holmes married Misss [sic] Mary E. Brown. For a time resided in Keosauqua and later to his mothers [sic] farm near Bonopart [sic]. Last Summer to Pacific Coast for his health but returned later where he died 12/12/1909 age 60 years 8 months 6 days. Besided [sic] his wife, daughter, and grand daughter he leaves 3 brothers, and one sister.
