Clendenen Rites Are Scheduled

Funeral services for Richard Dean Clendenen, 21, who was killed on the USS Forrestal which was stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin near Viet Nam, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Milton Methodist Church.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Herbert Phillips. Military services will be held at the graveside at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Clendenen was killed July 29 on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier when explosions occurred as planes were beginning to take off for a mission in Viet Nam.

He was born Aug. 8, 1945 in the Ottumwa Hospital to Irving and Wilberta Clendenen of Milton. He was a graduate of Fox Valley High School.

Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Clendenen of Milton and maternal grandmother of California.
