R. Brickey dies at 55

OTTUMWA - Robert B. Brickey, 55, veteran of World War II and a former longtime member of the National Guard Band in Fairfield, died at 3:55 a.m. Thursday at the Ottumwa Hospital.

He served with the National Guard Band throughout its long-time tour of duty through North Africa and Europe and remained a member for a lengthy period after return to civilian life.

He was also a longtime member of the dance band, The Aristocrats, which was made up largely of band members and disbanded only a few years ago.

Brickey had been an Ottumwa resident for 33 years. He worked for the State of Iowa for 32 years and was presently manager of the Job Insurance Division.

He was born Aug. 5, 1922, at Stockport, the son of John and Salena Horn Brickey. He was married to Hilda Burton Jan. 19, 1947.

In addition to his widow Brickey is survived by a daughter, Glenda Walker, Billings, Mont.; a son, Stephen, Winnipeg, Canada; three grandchildren; a sister, Mayne Workman, Stockport; and brothers Kyle, Ottumwa, and Raymond, Birmingham.

The services at 1:30 p.m. Monday will be at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Reigel officiaing. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
