Man Takes Own Life

Jefferson County officers have ruled Clifford F. Shafranek, 72, Fairfield, died of self inflicted gun shot wounds.

His body was found at his home Saturday morning. Fairfield police received a call to the home at 9:28 a.m. It is believed he took his own life sometime Friday.

The home is at 602 W. Monroe. Shafranek had lived in the Fairfield community since 1953 and had worked for the Louden Machinery Co. for over 20 years.

Graveside services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. The Weston Behner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clifford F. Shafranek was born Oct. 8, 1905, at Keswick, the son of Frank and Ada Walker Shafranek. He was married to Gladys Harwick March 23, 1929. She preceded her husband in death Oct. 7, 1976.

Survivors include one son, Richard E., Route 2, Keosauqua, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
