C. Dorothy rites

Chester James Dorothy, 91, 506 W. Jackson, died at 6:10 a.m. today at Jefferson County Hospital. He had been seriously ill for one year.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Glasgow Cemetery, Glasgow. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. A memorial has been established to the Senior Citizen Site.

Dorothy was born July 11, 1896 near Stockport, the son of James and Ellie Weaver Dorothy. He married Erma Loving June 29, 1943. She died May 23, 1981. He married Irene Seawalt March 28, 1985 in Memphis, Mo. He lived most of his life in Van Buren and Jefferson counties. He was a farmer, well digger, and had retired as a government inspector from the Ordnance Plant at Burlington. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I and a member of Big Cedar Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Luella Keck of Fairfield; three stepdaughters, Marge Maddix of Sun City, Ariz., Virginia Poling of Fairfield, Betty Schimmelpfennig of Batavia; a stepson, Robert White of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Raymond of Stockport, and Floyd and Glen, both of Fairfield; and a sister, Nellie Mahon of Keosauqua. Two brothers and two great-grandchildren preceded him in death.
