Jewel O. Brooks

Jewel O. Brooks, daughter of George and Nancy Mustard Roberts, was born May 24, 1900 near Troy and died the evening of Sunday, July 1, 1984 in the long term care unit of Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield at the age of 84.

She lived her life in the Troy area until moving into the home of Leonard "Barney" and Ruth Harward in Pulaski where she had resided the past three years. She had entered the care unit only recently.

On August 5, 1920 she married Peter Brooks. They farmed in Chequest Township, Van Buren County and moved to Troy in 1941. They operated a general store for a number of years and she served for a time as Troy's acting postmaster. Mr. Brooks died in 1980. An infant son, Donald Dean, three brothers, Orville, Walter, and Vernette Roberts and a sister, Amy Roberts, two infant brothers and one infant sister also preceded her in death.

Remaining are a daughter Luzon Botts and her husband John of Albia, two sons, Russell and his wife of Harland, and Harold and his wife Norma of West Liberty. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a brother, Edwin Roberts of Worthington, Minn., three sisters, Nellie Howells of Tacoma, Wash., Lena Matt of LaPorte City, Iowa, and Ruth Buckles of Keosauqua, other relatives and friends.

She was a long time active member of the Troy United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women, and Troy Union Rebekah Lodge No. 510.
