Peter Brooks

TROY - Peter E. Brooks, 79, of Troy died the morning of Jan. 9 at home.

He was born Feb. 18, 1900, in Chequest Township, Van Buren County, to John and Edith Nason Brooks. He married Jewel Roberts Aug. 5, 1920. They farmed in Chequest Township until mobing to Troy in 1941.

They operated a general store for many years. He was Troy postmaster from 1947 until retiring in December 1968. He was a member of Troy United Metodist Church and Retired Postmasters Association and a 50-year member of Troy Oddfellows Lodge 27.

Surviviors: his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Luzon Botts of Albia; sons Russell of Harlan and Harold of West Liberty; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Rex of Prairie Village, kan.; and sisters Bessie Rector of Fairfield and Daisy Day of Ottumwa.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at his church, the Rev. John Augspurger officiating. Burial: Troy Cemetery.
