Donnellson Woman Dies In Auto Accident

Mrs. William B. (Jeanice) Sanders, 42, of Donnellson rural route died Tuesday, May 25, at 9:45 a.m. She was killed in an auto accident a little over a mile north of her home.

Mrs. Sanders was alone and northbound in her car when it colided(err) with a pickup truck at a gravel road intersection about four miles southwest of Houghton.

Sheriff Don Arnold said Mrs. Sander's car was struck broadside by an eastbound pickup truck driven by Virgil Lester Gordon, 56, of Bonaparte.

According to a report from the sheriff, Mrs. Sanders' car apparently failed to stop for a stop sign.

Gordon was taken to the Van Buren County Memorial hospital, Keosauqua. His injuries included severe lacerations of the face and head and some rib fractures.

Mrs. Sanders was born Nov. 25, 1928 at West Point and was a life resident of the Houghton, West Point area. She was the daughter of the late Barney Lohman and Margaret Koepping Lohman.

Her first husband, Bernard A. Sanders, was killed in a tractor accident on Feb. 6, 1968.

She married William B. Sanders on April 12, 1969 in St. Mary's Catholic church in West Point. He survives.

Mrs. Sanders was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, West Point, its Altar and Rosary Society and was a member of the Madonna Circle of St. Paul. She was a 4-H leader the past five years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Melvin, Christopher and Steven, all at home; two daughters, Joan and Kristie Ann, at home; two brothers, Urban Lohman of Dallas, Tex. and Bernard Lohman of West Point; two sisters, Mrs. H.S. (Jerry) Corn of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Lane (Monica) Mathena of Dubuque; four half-sisters, Mrs. Frank Fedler of West Point, Sister Jeanice Lohman of the Order of F.S.P.A. LaCrosse, Wisc., Mrs. A.J. Scolaro (Mary Catherine) of West Chester, Ill., Mrs. Margaret Mitchell of West Point.

The funeral service will be Friday, May 28, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church, West Point. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, West Point. The Rev. Francis Lenoch will officiate. The body is at the Link Funeral Home at West Point, where the recitation of the Rosary will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. and Thursday at 3 p.m. by the Altar and Rosary Society followed by the Daughters of Isabella and Thursday at 8 p.m. by the parish followed by the Knights of Columbus.
