Ira R. Adkins

Ira R. Adkins, 73, of Farmington died at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in Mercy hospital, Davenport, after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 19, 1897 at Carroll county, Mo., the son of Nathan and Sarah Staton Adkins.

His marriage to Ruth Gray took place Oct. 26, 1927 in Chicago. She died Feb. 1, 1962.

He married Jessica Sherry march 21, 1965 in Farmington. She died March 20, 1968.

Mr. Adkins was formerly employed witha(err) pipeline construction company and retired in 1963.

He was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He served in W.W. I, the European theater and also on the Mexican border.

Surviving are one son, Roger, of Burlington; and two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Reid of Davenport and Mrs. Leon (Iris) Ufkes of Richland, Wash.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Arlene) Stotts of Farmington, Mrs. Jack (Laura Jane) Dorothy of Keosauqua; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Elstro and Mrs. Murrell Worth, both of Waverly, Mo.; two brothers, Kenneth Adkins of Carrollton, Mo. and Karl Adkins of Richmond, Calif.; seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, and one sister.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21, in the Farmington United Methodist church. The Rev. Edward Maus officiated. Burial was in the Farmington cemetery.
