Mrs. Clare Towne

Mrs. Mamie A. Teeter Towne, 78, died at 11:25 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa.

She was born March 2, 1892, in Van Buren County, the daughter of William and Sarah Johnson Green. A former Birmingham community resident, she had lived in Eldon 34 years.

She married Thurman Teeter in 1913. He died in 1951. In 1953 she married Clare Towne, who died in 1963.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Estol Humble of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Paul Hart of Douds; five sons, Jack Teeter of Ottumwa, Gerald Teeter of Fairfield, and Glenn, Clyde and Lloyd Teeter, all of Eldon; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Hickenbottom of Fairfield and Mrs. Marjorie Clark of Galveston, Tex. An infant daughter and two brothers preceded her in death.

The service was held Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. John Nye. Burial was in the Eldon Cemetery.
