Vermille D. Shaffer

Vermille D. Shaffer of 1090 26th Street, Marion, Iowa, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home Sunday, Nov. 29 at 9:30 A.M.

The youngest son of Mary A. and A.W. Shaffer, he was born March 9, 1914 in Bonaparte where he grew up and graduated in 1935. He was a World War II veteran.

Until his recent retirement because of failing health he was general sales manager for the Henderson Manufacturing Company in Manchester.

He leaves his widow, Mary Ann, two daughters, Mrs. Kathy Peeples and Mrs. Sherry DeFrees, both of Cedar Rapids, one son, Steven, in the Navy, and six grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, R.W. Coats of Anaheim, Calif., and three sisters, Mrs. Bessie M. Gardner of Burlington, Mrs. Mary Huff of El Segundo, Calif., and Mrs. Lloyd W. Lawson of Ottumwa.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Stella and two brothers, James and Phillip.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Turner's Mortuary East in Cedar Rapids, with burial in Lynwood cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
