Carl F. Lay

Carl F. Lay, 82, Donnellson, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in Sacred Heart hospital, Ft. Madison.

He was born in Germany on March 15, 1888, the son of Mike and Rosa Lay. He married the late Freda Knapp in Peoria, Ill., on April 9, 1912.

Mr. Lay was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ.

Survivors: Two sons, Clifford Lay of Ft. Madison and Roy Lay of Donnellson; five daughters, Mrs. Clara Ross, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Anna McVay, Ft. Madison; Mrs. Luella Davis, Keota, and Alice and Florence Lay, both of Donnellson; step-son Dick Knapp of Raritan, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, August 12 at 2 p.m. at Miller-Hofbauer funeral home, Donnellson. Rev. Kenneth Harden officiating. Burial was in Evangelical cemetery.
