Mrs. Clarence Glass

Mrs. Edith Glass died at 12:35 a.m. Monday, April 20 at her home in Fairfield. She had been seriously ill three weeks.

Born in Jefferson County near Glasgow, she was the daughter of David N. and Clara Ready Sense. She was married to Clarence Gass(Glass) on June 4, 1917, in Rock Island, Ill. Educated in Fairfield schools, she graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and taught in the Fairfield school system several years. For 15 years she taught first and second grades in Birmingham schools where she had a perfect attendance record.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and had a life membership in the WSCS. She was a member of the Netaker Temple, Daughters of the Nile in Des Moines; the Orthopedic Sewing Club, Order of the Amaranth and was past president of the Social Order of the Beauceant, all in Ottumwa; the Consistory Ladies Club in Des Moines, and the Fairfield Women's Club and the National Association of Retired Teachers. She was past president of the Last Chance and the Bariachs, W.W. I and past president of Alen Jewell Post, American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving besides her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Payne of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren; and a brother, Earl of Tacoma, Washington.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, April 22 at 10 a.m. at Raymond Funeral Home, Fairfield, conducted by the Rev. Millard Marshall of Keosauqua. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
