Clarke L. Anderson

Clarke Leslie Anderson, eldest son of Alfred H. and Eva (Carter) Anderson, was born May 10, 1891 at Floral, Kansas, and died at Memorial Hospital at Keosauqua on April 16 at the age of 78 years, 11 months and six days.

When five years of age he came with several members of the Anderson families by covered wagon to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Here he attended school and spent his early youth. Later the family moved to Van Buren County where he spent the remainder of his life.

Clarke was a member of Big Cedar Christian Church.

Besides farming a short time he was employed for about 15 years as a county maintenance worker for Van Buren County.

The past 30 years he has served as an oil distributor and station operator in Stockport, Iowa.

On Dec. 1, 1909 he was married to Katie Edith Watson at Hillsboro, Iowa. She passed away Nov. 21, 1959.

On Nov. 5, 1961 he married Mrs. Lena Tomkins Watson at Pleasant Palin, Iowa.

Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Meda (Mrs. Paul) Yarnell of Stockport; and three sons, Milo H. and Wendell LaVerne of Stockport and Laryl L. of Fairfield; two brothers, Floyd M. of Tampa, Fla. and Kenneth D. of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Coltrane.

he also leaves five grandsons, James, Robert, Larry, Steven and Richard Anderson and two granddaughters, Mrs. (Carolyn) Walters and Mrs. Julie Lamm, and five step-grandchildren, Maynard, Ralph, Debbie, Timothy and Carl Hearn. There are 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two step-daughters, Mrs. Velma Campbell and Mrs. Crystal Dorothy; two step-sons, Elvin and Everett Watson; several nieces and nephews.
