Jesse Gardner

Jesse M. Gardner, 87, Ottumwa, a retired carpenter, died at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa Tuesday night, Feb. 10. He had been ill the past year.

Funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 P.M. at the Jay Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

He was born Oct. 10, 1882 in Jefferson County and attended schools there. He was married to Bertha Bayard in 1903, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Melvin Walker and Mrs. Merlin Walker, both of Ottumwa; one son, John Gardner of San Francisco, Calif.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One son preceded him in death.

He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. T.T. Stuckey and A.R. Gardner of Fairfield; Mrs. Ray Grant of Mt. Pleasant; John Gardner of Bentonsport; Guy Gardner of Stockport, Mrs. Ray Church of Bonaparte; Robert Gardner of Mesa, Ariz.; Mrs. Flossie Turkey of Orange, Calif., and Tom Gardner of Boulder, Colo.

Jesse Gardner with his family lived at Bonaparte many years ago where their children grew up and went to school.
