Bertha Parker

Mrs. Bertha Edna Parker, 71, of Bonaparte, died Sunday, ?? 1, at 11:55 a.m. in Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua. She had been seriously ill one week.

The former Bertha Gibbs, she was born Feb. 8, 1895 at Bonaparte, the daughter of Thomas and Cora Belle Parsons Gibbs. She spent her entire life in and around Bonaparte.

On April 6, 1912, at Bonaparte she married Roy Parker of Bentonsport. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons: (Louis) of Bonaparte, Frank of Keokuk, Roy of Jacksonville, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. Donald (Gladys) Shepherd of Ft. Madison, Mrs. Harry (Leda) Cass, Mrs. Joe (Edna) Miller, both of Bonaparte, Mrs. William (Esther) Eggers of Gorin, Mo., and Mrs. Elmo (Louise) Simpkins of Farmington; 1 sister, Mrs. Ralph Hudson of Aledo, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, two sisters, one brother, three half-brothers, and two half-sisters.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. in the Bonaparte Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Ogden officiating. Burial was in Bonaparte Cemetery. The body was transferred from Miller's Home for Funerals in Farmington on Tuesday morning and taken to the Carl Wilson Reposing Home in Bonaparte to lie in state until time of service.
