Forest R. Snyder

Forest Roy Snyder, 70, who was mayor of Stockport at two different times, died in Van Buren County hospital, Keosauqua, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. He had been ill for five months.

Mr. Snyder was a native of Decatur county, and was born March 24, 1899, the son of John and Ida Hawkins Snyder. He lived in Decatur and Wayne counties until 1942, when he opened a produce business at Stockport. He operated the business until 1964, when he retired. Mr. Snyder was a charter member and past president of the Lions club. He married Ruby Phipps Sept. 25, 1918. She died Dec. 10, 1964. Mr. Snyder was then married to Sarah Hesselgesser, on Dec. 14. 1966.

Surviving are his widow; four sons, Forest Snyder of Des Moines, Bill Snyder of Muskegon, Mich., Norman Snyder of Mt. Pleasant, Keith Snyder of Stockport; four daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Pratt of O'Fallon, Mo., Mrs. Louise Lanam of Falls Church, Va., Mrs. Ruby Dorothy of Humeston and Mrs. Donna Corrico of Stockport; two step-daughters, Mrs. Margaret Campbell of Keswick and Mrs. Mary Mullins of Chariton; a brother, Everett Snyder of Leon and three sisters, Mrs. Helen Rumley and Mrs. Mae Cain, both of Leon, and Mrs. Clarice Rumley of Walkerton, Ind.; 35 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Stockport Christian church with the Rev. Chester Werft officiating. Burial was at Garden Grove.
