Jessie Mize Eager

Jessie Lee Mize was born June 8, 1881 in Sumner County, Kansas and passed away Sept. 28, 1969 in her home in Saskatoon, Canada at age of eighty eight years.

She was the eldest of the four children of Lewis and Nannie Fowler Mize.

At the age of three years her parents returned to Iowa and located on their farm on Vernon Prairie where she lived until her marriage to John L. Eager of Kenniston, Sask., Canada (formerly of Van Buren Co.) in this home Jan. 26, 1911.

In the Spring they left Iowa for their prepared home on a farm near Kenaston with a group of Van Buren friends and relatives, who were seeking a prospective home in this area.

The prairie and the Canadian climate were a challenge to her courage and enthusiasm to build a happy and full life in this new environment. A son, Richard L. and a daughter Evelyn Lucille added unlimited joy to the home. Both are now professors in the Universities of Saskatoon, Sask., and Lakeland, Ontario.

To do her part in community service was one of Jessie's pleasures and for years was president of the local Homemaker's Club, a national Canadian organization.

And being a lover of Nature was ever happy among the trees and flowers of her home.

Retiring from the farm they lived a number of years in their home in Kenaston and later in a home in Saskatoon where son Richard lived.

Husband John passed away a short time after their Golden Wedding anniversary, in 1962.

To cherish in memory her devoted and inspiring life are son Richard L. and wife Marguerite, two grandsons Richard II and Derek Eager, daughter Evelyn Lucille Eager, brother Lawrence L. and wife, Ora Mae of Des Moines, Iowa, sister-in-law Mrs. Willa Marie and son Dale D. Mize of Vernon Prairie, sister Mabel Alice Mize of Bonaparte, Iowa, and many friends with whom she associated during more than fifty years of her life in Canada.

Brother Lewis Clinton passed away march 19, 1950.

Interment was beside husband John in Sunset Garden near Saskatoon.

The human hope of another life is expressed in the words of a poet who wrote:

"There is no death! the dust we tread
Shall change beneath the sun and showers
To golden grain or mellowed fruit
Or rainbow tinted flowers."
"Eternity is a quiet road
Past the portals of time and space where
Cloaked in the wonders of infinite love
We will behold God's face."
