Joe A. Miller

Joe Alfred Miller, the son of Daniel Alfred and Pearl Holloway Miller, was born in Milton, Iowa Sept. 20, 1899. He was stricken with a heart attack Friday night and died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 13, 1969.

His early life was spent in Milton where he graduated from the high school and then entered Wentworth Military Academy at Lexington, Mo. On Oct. 2, 1918 he was inducted into the United States Army at Fairfield. After graduating from the Ft. Madison business college he entered the lumber business college he entered in lumber business at Pulaski. He worked in lumber yards at Granite City, Ill. and Muscatine, Iowa.

Later he moved to Des Moines, where he lived for 30 years, employed as sales representative for the B.F. Nelson Company of Minneapolis, Minn. Upon his retirement he moved to Milton.

In Sept. 1921 he married Ula Marie Smith. A son, Dan, was born to this union. In 1948 he married Doris Espy, who preceded him in death. On April, 1963 he was united in marriage to Mildred Dugger and they made their home on the Meek Ranch, south of Milton.

He was a member of the Milton Christian Church, serving on the official board as a Deacon.

At the time of his death he was a 49 year member of the Elks. He was a charter member and past president of the Des Moines Gyro International Club. Pallbearers represented the Gyro Club.

He is survived by his widow; his son and daughter-in-law of Farmington, Minn.; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Spencer Yancey of Wichita, Kans. two grandchildren, Spencer and Ann Miller of Farmington, Minn.; two step-children and three step-grandchildren of Milton.

Interment was in the family lot in the Milton Sunnyside Cemetery.
