John R. Laughlin

The funeral for John Raymond Laughlin, 58, a farmer, who died Saturday at the Ottumwa Hospital, was Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at the Pedrick Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Nicholson, United Methodist pastor officiated. Interment was in Mount Moriah Cemetery, near Douds.

The son of Daniel and Nettie Cade Laughlin, he was born Feb. 9, 1911 near Douds. He spent his entire life in the area. He was active in the Douds Field Association and the Douds Saddle Club. He was a member of the Douds Community Club, the American Legion, and was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his widow, Marie; 3 stepsons, William and Robert Gire of Douds and Stanley Gire of Batavia; 7 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Dave and Floyd of Douds, and Ernest of Birmingham, and 4 sisters, Edna Leyden of Birmingham, Esther Ross of Douds, Ella Findlay of Blakesburg, and Leona Vanderwall of Ridgeway Park, Ill.
