Henry C. Taylor

Henry C. Taylor, 96, died April 30. For the past years, he has been making his home with his daughter, Esther, at Naples, Florida. He was described by the Agricultural Department as "The Father of Agricultural Economics in Washington. He is credited with writing the first textbook on agricultural economics in 1905.

He was born on April 16, 1873 on what is known now as the Gus Warner farm just three miles east of Stockport.

As a youth he attended Taylor School No. 2, Cedar Township. He attended Drake University and received his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Iowa State College, Ames in 1896. He also obtained his master degree from Iowa State.

He was under Secretary of Agriculture during the Hoover Administration and travelled extensively in the Far East for the government in whose service he remained many years.

He was instrumental in helping to organize the Stockport Christian Church in 1894.

His wife Ann Taylor died in January 1959. He is survived by his only child, Esther Taylor.
