Esther L. Maddy

Mrs. Esther L. Maddy, daughter of John and Eva Bell Frost, was born April 6, 1904, at Knoxville, and departed this life Saturday, March 22, 1969, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Kunzman south of Selma at the age of 64.

On December 13, 1930, she was married to Stanley R. Maddy. He preceded her in death in 1952. They lived in Knoxville, Des Moines, and Ottumwa, where he was employed by the Railway Express Agency.

Mrs. Maddy was a cosmetologist and operated beauty shops in Des Moines and Ottumwa. Later she managed the cosmetics department at Wards Pharmacy, now McWilliams Downtown Drug, in Ottumwa. In 1967, she was a housemother at Parsons College in Fairfield.

Remaining to mourn her passing are three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Kunzman, of Selma; Mrs. Pauline Frey, Shawnee Mission, Kansas; Mrs. Gwendolyn Applequist, Pensacola, Florida; a son, Wallace Maddy of Eddyville; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Alice Harsher, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Lessie Morgan, San Augustine, Texas; and Mrs. Margaret Wren, Des Moines; and a brother, Tom Frost of Prairie City.

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Ottumwa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, 1969, at 1 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. James Postel, pastor of Trinity Church officiating. Mrs. Glenn Sprouse and Mrs. Ralph Lepper were the vocalists, accompanied by Mrs. Garold Hughes. Pall bearers were Jack Buretta, Clova Traxler, Jr., Lawrence Ellis, Bruce Bates, Donald Swanson, and George W. Kunzman. Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery at Knoxville.
