Paul Edward Megrath

Paul Edward Megrath, son of Edward and Lillie Badgley Megrath, was born Sept. 9, 1910, near Lebanon and departed his life Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1968, at the Van Buren County memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 58. His entire life was spent in the Lebanon community. He was a farmer and Van Buren Community School bus driver. For a number of years he drove a cream truck for the Keosauqua creamery.

On Nov. 16, 1940, he was married to Lorraine Harrison at Keosauqua. She remains to mourn his passing along with their daughter, Duana of Ottumwa, and their son, Edward, at home.

Also surviving are a brother, Herbert Dee Megrath of Keosauqua; a half-brother, Lester Mcgrath of Ottumwa; two step-brothers and three step-sisters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A half-brighter and a step-sister preceded him in death.

Paul was a member of the Lebanon Methodist Church and president of the Lebanon Cemetery Association.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father and as a good neighbor, who was always ready to do his part to make his community a better place in which to live.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 27, 1968, at 2 P.M. at the Lebanon Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold Harryman, former pastor, of Newton, and the Rev. Dennis Nicholson, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Hazen Beeler was the pianist. Van Buren Community school bus drivers were honorary pall bearers. Active pall bearers were Melvin Sandy, Royale Peacock, Monte McQuoid, Cecil Miller, Ivan Chaplin and George Sadler. Interment was in the Lebanon cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
