Mrs. Mabel M. Ashby, 80, died Thursday, Sept. 22, in Van Buren County hospital, Keosauqua, after a long illness.
She was born in Van Buren county on Jan. 12, 1886, the daughter of James and Rebecca Bell Phillips, and was married to Marion W. Ashby on March 1, 1916. Mr. Ashby died June 4, 1956. Mrs. Ashby was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are a step-daughter, Mrs. Ralph Hibbs of Leon and a step-grandchild, four brothers, Ira Phillips of Des Moines, Guy Phillips of Buena Vista, Colo., Virgil Phillips of Berwyn, Ill. and Pro Phillips of Aurora, Ill. and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Nickel of Des Moines, Mrs. Chloe Holman of Denver, Colo. and Mrs. Betty Broaddows of Lock Springs, Mo.
Services were held at the Burch Funeral Home at Birmingham Monday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m., the Rev. Chester Werft officiating. Burial was in the Hillsboro cemetery.
