Mary I. Downs

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary I. Downs, age 70, was held Thursday, April 28 from the Harrisburg Baptist Church. Rev. David Diercks, pastor of the church officiated. Interment in the Val cemetery with the Beatty Funeral Chapel of Salem in charge of arrangements.

Pianist was Mrs. Lester Stecker, soloist was Jim Downs, a grandson.

Serving as bearers were John Dodds, Morris Huff, Kenneth Mosher, Blake Phelps, Robert Tade and Lester Stecker.

Mrs. Downs passed away at the Farmington Rest Home, where she had been in failing health for the past year, on Tuesday evening, April 26.

Born Dec. 18, 1886 in Illinois, she was the daughter of Richard and Bell Burger Swink. On Dec. 27, 1905 she was married to Samuel Downs, who preceded her in death in September, 1963. To this union was born two sons and two daughters, Delbert of Davenport, Roger C. of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Ben (Dorothy) Huff of the Harrisburg community and Mrs. Alvin (Jessie) Borgman of LeClaire, Iowa.

Mrs. Downs lived the past 34 years in the Harrisburg community, active in church and community work.
