Chester E. Metz

Chester E. Metz, 83, of Keosauqua, retired Jefferson County farmer, died last Thursday at 11:45 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua. He had been in failing health three years and was seriously ill four months.

Born Nov. 15, 1882, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Finis and Mary Emerson Metz. He was married Sept. 5, 1906, to Rosa Belle Watson. The couple farmed near Glasgow. She died July 23, 1965.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Grace E. Barker; two sons, Myron E. and Donald C., both of Fairfield; six grandchildren, 13 great-granechildren and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Phillips of Elbert, Colo.

He was preceded in death by two sons in infancy, one grandchild, a great-grandchild and two brothers.

The service was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Aldreth V. Weigel of Keosauqua officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery north-west of Glasgow.
