Ernest M. Countryman

Ernest M. Countryman, 83, retired farmer, died Tuesday night, Mar. 8 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Owen, Ottumwa route 4.

Countryman was a retired farmer and carpenter. He lived on farms in Wapello, Jefferson and Van Buren counties before moving to Ottumwa in 1959.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Mar. 11 at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds in charge of Rev. Keith Knauss, Ottumwa. Burial was in Zion Lutheran cemetery near Douds.

Countryman was born Jan. 17, 1882, the son of Josiah and Rachel Forney Countryman. He was married to Fairy Johnson on Jan. 25, 1906. She preceded him in death in 1963.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ralph Owen; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Grace Jemison. One son, two brothers and four sisters are deceased.
