JOHN W. PFEIFER

BONAPARTE - John W. Pfeifer, 87, of Bonaparte, died Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

He was born Dec. 23, 1889, at Hillsboro to William and Margaret Cochenour Pfeifer. On March 31, 1920, he married Lulu E. Bennett at Bonaparte. She preceded him in death.

He moved from Hillsboro to Bonaparte in 1949. He was a World War I veteran and a retired farmer, and had served many years as the Harrisburg Township assessor.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, Sargeant-Osweiler American Legion Post 563 at Bonaparte and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4563 at Keosauqua.

Surviving are two sons, W. Scott of Birmingham and Norman Gene of Keosauqua; one daughter, Edna Ruth Kennedy of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Schrepfer and Mrs. Mabel Woods, both of Farmington, and Mrs. Marjorie Vickers of Bonaparte; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Bonaparte Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Scott Holmes officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Bonaparte Cemetry.

The body is at the Carl Wilson home in Bonaparte, where the family will meet friends Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
