F.A. Speer Dies At 74

Floyd A. Speer, 74, 406 South D St., died Monday at Jefferson County Hospital where he had been a patient since Dec. 19.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7:30 to 8:30 at the Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials will be appreciated. The body will be taken to the church at noon Thursday.

Speer was born Oct. 22, 1899 near Fairfield, the son of Andrew and Rosetta Pattison Speer. A lifetime resident of this area, he farmed for 25 years and was employed at the Fairfield Feed Co. for more than 30 years. He was married March 31, 1921 to Rachel Helphrey, who survives.

Other survivors are the following children: Mrs. Robert Groh, Sioux City; Robert Speer, Portland, Ore.; Berle Speer, Boulder, Colo.; Mrs. Forrest Keller, Birmingham; Don Speer, Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. Verna Mace, Fairfield. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Speer was a member of the First Christian Church, serving on the church board as deacon. He was a member of IOOF Lodge No. 4 and Rebekah Lodge NO. 96. He was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and one step-brother.
