AVA (LUCY) THORN

MOUNT STERLING - Ava Ann (Lucy) Thorn, 79, of rural Mount Sterling, died Saturday at 2:10 p.m. at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, where she was admitted two weeks ago.

She was born Aug. 26, 1897, at Unionville, Mo., to Wilson and Sarah Guffey Trent. On Jan. 12, 1916, she married Hugh E. Thorn at Unionville, Mo. He died in 1967.

She spent most of her life at Unionville, then lived at Keokuk before moving to Mount Sterling in 1955.

Surviving are five sons, John of Queen City, Mo., Kenneth, Hubert and Fred, all of Keokuk, and Edgar of Augusta; one daughter, Mrs. Dan Liggett of Fort Madison; two brothers, Elta Trent of Bozeman, Mont., and John Trent of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Maude Stockton of Unionville, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The service will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home, Farmington, with the Rev. Gary Worsham officiating. Burial will be in the Christy Cemetery in rural Farmington.

The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.
