James McIntosh was born in Taswell County, Virginia, Aug. 22, 1820 and died at Keosauqua, Iowa, Sept. 25, 1897, aged 77 years, 1 month and 3 days. He came to Van Buren County, Iowa where he afterward made his home in the fall of 1839.

On Sept. 12, 1841, he was married to Susanna Peterson, who died in 1888. To them were born six sons and five daughters, seven of whom are still living.

Mr. McIntosh was a faithful member of the Methodist church for more than 50 years. He was a kind man and was universally respected by all who knew him. The funeral was from the residence, Rev. Tennant preaching.

The body was buried in the Purdom cemetery.
