Sarah Ann McIntosh was born in Faswell county, Virginia, Feb. 10, 1826. From Virginia with her parents she removed in 1838 to Van Buren County, Iowa. At the age of fifteen she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1883 she with her husband, Randolph Cox and family came to Missouri and the next year to Mountain Grove, [MO], where she resided until her death, June 7, 1894.
Mrs. Cox has raised nine children, [Juliette Thomas; Alonzo Cox; Harvey Cox; Argus Cox; Clarinda Anson; Florence Goss; Eudora Frye; Carrie Cassil; Alice Ellis] all of whom are settled in life, and some occupying positions of public trust. They all with her husband and two brothers survive to mourn her demise.
On April 22, 1894, was the 45th anniversary of her marriage, at which time all her children were gathered in their accustomed places in the old home to meet an unbroken family for the last time on earth.
Sister Cox was known and loved by a wide circle of friends who recognized in her meekness and unassuming virtues the true gold of Christian character. She was a true, devoted wife, a self-forgetting and loving mother, a kind neighbor.
She took sick in January, and although suffering greatly never was heard to complain. Her only care seemed for those who waited on her with loving hands, lest they should be overburdened. On Decoration Day, although suffering greatly, she thought of her friends gone before, and sent her choicest flowers to be placed upon their lowly beds; mentioning particularly Grandma Baker, Grandpa Killam and Mrs. Spyres. An hour before her death she was restored to consiousness and gave her dear ones evidence of her readiness and preparation to depart.
Sarah A. McIntosh Cox is my great, great grandmother; posting this obituary for those who might have an interest.
