ROSCOE STAGERS
DOUDS - Roscoe Stagers, 80, of Douds, died of a heart attack Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at his home.
He was born Jan. 7, 1897, near Douds to Daniel and Margaret Channel Stagers. A lifetime resident of the community, he was a World War I veteran. He was a farmer, operating a dairy and doing custom harvesting. He also was employed a number of years at the Douds quarry.
Mr. Stagers was a 50-year member of Hyson-Reneker American Legion Post 494, and was active in the Douds Community Club and the Douds Field Day Association.
On July 13, 1921, he married Elsie Duke at Keosauqua. She survives as do one son, Warren of Fairfield; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Beryl and Richard, both of Douds.
The service was held today at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. L.C. Browan and the Rev. Helen Brown officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
A memorial was established payable to the heart fund.
