Ottumwa, Iowa, Friday, January 14, 1977

SHEROD FUNERAL

KILBOURN - The funeral of Clayton D. Sherod, 97, who died Thursday, will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church north of Keosauqua. The Rev. Harold Schnedler will officiate, and burial will be in the Kilbourn Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the cemetery. The body is at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Mr. Sherod was born Oct. 24, 1879, near Mount Zion to William and Elizabeth Barker Sherod. He was a retired farmer and former state representative, having served three terms in the Iowa General Assembly from 1949 to 1954.

On Aug. 19, 1908, he married Madge Short. They farmed several years in the Mount Zion community, moving in 1920 to their farm near Kilbourn. She died in 1975.

He was a member of the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church, Celestial Masonic Lodge 413 and Twin City Chapter 258 of Eastern Star at Douds.

He was a former president of the Van Buren County Fair Board, and was active in the work of the Agriculture Adjustment Administration, a forerunner to the Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service.

Surviving are two sons, William of Birmingham and Joe of Sun City, Fla.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
