O. J. Coolidge.
Funeral services of the late O. J. Coolidge were held from his home last Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was made in the Bonaparte cemetery.
Rev. T. L. Smith spoke at the house and offered prayer at the cemetery. A trio composed of Mrs. Bert Smith, Mrs. J. G. Whiteley and A. G. Roberts sang at the house.
Mr. Coolidge was 57 years, three months, and 24 days of age. He was born in Jerseyville, Ill., and came to Bonaparte with his parents, Henry and Luvina Coolidge, when three years of age.
He was married March 10th, 1875, to Eliza Monroe, and they have lived almost continuously in Bonaparte since that time. They lived almost a year in Keosauqua when Mr. Coolidge was deputy county clerk.
When Mr. Coolidge was first married he was engaged in the mercantile business here with his father; later he was in business with his brother, Henry, and also by himself. For the past twenty-six years he has been a traveling salesman.
Mr. Coolidge never saw the dark side of life -- He lived always on the sunny-side, and took an optimistic view of every thing. He was interested in baseball, and all sports, and almost daily had a game of croquet with his friends when he was at home and the weather permitted.
He leaves a wife, four children, Minnie A. Miller, Ed. G. Coolidge, Blanche A. Vass and Ivan D. Coolidge all of Des Moines and four grand children, Earl E. Miller, Gladys Coolidge, Harold Ivan and Lawrence Coolidge Vass. Three sisters and three brothers survive, viz. Mrs. Mary Casey of Ashland, Oregon; Mrs. Jennie Steinmeyer of Colorado Springs; Mrs. Ella Cairns of Eugene City, Oregon; Henry L. Coolidge and D. W. Coolidge of Pasadena, California and George H. Coolidge of San Francisco.
