RALPH WHEATLEY

FAIRFIELD - Ralph A. Wheatley, 83, of 502 W. Washington, died Wednesday at 9:05 p.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital, where he had been nine days.

He was born Dec. 4, 1892, in Van Buren County, near Hillsboro, to Jobe and Nancy Taylor Wheatley. He attended Stockport High School and was a World War I veteran.

On June 12, 1929, he married Neva Belle Allender in Ottumwa. She survives as do several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, the KAABA Shrine, the Eagles Lodge and a 50-year member of Clinton Masonic Lodge 15.

He was a maintenance employe of Jefferson County for many years, then road maintenance foreman in Jefferson County for the Iowa State Highway Commission for 38 years prior to retiring in 1958.

The service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rec. Lynn Bergfalk and the Rev. George Koch officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
