Services for Mrs. Evelyn J. Carruthers, 68, of Keosauqua [IA], who died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 1984 at Van Buren Memorial Hospital, will be held at the Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Robert Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery. A memorial to the Christian Church has been established at Pedrick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carruthers was born Sept. 24, 1915 in Van Buren County, to James R. and Lelah Murphy Burkett. She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1933. She married Willard E. Carruthers on Jan. 2, 1937 at Kahoka, MO.

She taught school before joining the Dietary Department of Van Buren County Memorial Hospital where she worked for 21 years. She was a member of the Keosauqua Christian Church.

Surviving: her husband; five sons, Dr. Richard, Davenport; Darrell, Mt. Pleasant; Steven, Burlington; Fred, Mediapolis; and Dan, Enid, Okla.; two daughters, Sue Gilchrist and Deb Kirchner, both of Burlington, Ia.; brother, Fred Burkett, Keosauqua; 20 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Pallbeaers: Sons and sons-in-laws -- Dr. Richard Carruthers, Dan Carruthers, Steven Carruthers, Craig Gilchrist, Eugene Overstreet, Fred Carruthers, Darrell Carruthers, Don Kirchner. Interment: Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua, Iowa.
