GEORGE S. HILL

George S. Hill, son of David and Lillie Simpkins Hill, was born July 8, 1897, in Jefferson County, and departed this life Tuesday, June 10, 1975, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 77. He farmed in Van Buren County, and for twenty years was employed as a blaster at Douds Stone, Inc.

On May 22, 1954, he married Della Stilwell. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter by a previous marriage, Mrs. Homer Harris of Mt. Pleasant, a stepson, Harold Stilwell of Nauvoo, Illinois; four step-daughters, Mrs. Albert Davis, Murray; Mrs. Charles Proper, Des Moines; Mrs. John Allsup, Minden, Ohio; and Sherry Stilwell at home; four grandchildren and seventeen step grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ernest Frazer of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Kenneth Hill of Bettendorf, other relatives and many friends. He was a Methodist, and will be remembered as an honest, hard-working man.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 13, 1975, at 1:30 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Donald Strauch, United Methodist pastor officiating. Interment was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery north of Douds.
