MRS. VERDA E. GREENE

Mrs. Verda E. Greene, daughter of Austin and Maggie Overturff Nutt, was born April 19, 1909, on the family farm north of Douds, and departed this life Friday, June 6, 1975, at Grinnell General Hospital in Grinnell at the age of 66. On February 21, 1929, she married Van O. Greene. They farmed north of Douds until his death in 1961. A sister, Mrs. Lillie Eaves, also preceded her in death.

Verda had lived in Grinnell the past ten years, where she was a member of the Church of Christ. Prior to that time she had been a life-long member of the Mount Moriah Church.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Bates of daughters, Mrs. Maxine Bates of Stockton, Kansas, and Mrs. Violet Whitaker of Grinnell, sons-in-law Kenneth Bates and Harold Whitaker, five grandchildren, Brad and Deanne Bates and Steve, Doug, and Greg Sadler, other relatives and many friends.

Verda will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who endeavored to live her Christian faith daily.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 9, at the Mt. Moriah Church north of Douds at 2 p.m. with Evangelist John Witt officiating. Mrs. Keith A. Smith and Mrs. Robert Pedrick were the vocalists, accompanied by Mrs. Max Caves. Pall bearers were Herbert Greene, Kenneth Burnham, Dr. Robert Bauman, Glenn Riddle, Rex Philips, and Brice Tedrow. Interment was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
