LAWNIS I. SICKLES

Lawnis I. Sickles, 78, suffered a heart attack at his home was was dead on arrival at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at 9:05 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 1975.

Mr. Sickles was one of the last licensed steam-hoisting engineers in Iowa (steam-hoisting was done in coal mines.)

A native of Davis County, Mrs. Sickles was born April 22, 1901, in Salt Creek township, the son of William E. and Sarah Wilkerson Sickles. He lived at Eldon, Ottumwa, Douds, and Lockridge before settling in the Birmingham community in September, 1973.

Mr. Sickles served in the Army in World War II. He married Mary Webb, February 20, 1946, at Lancaster, Missouri. He had been a farmer as well as a miner.

Surviving: The wife; two sons, and two daughters, Bill Sickles and Mrs. Richard Douglas, both of Mt. Pleasant, Lawnis Ray Sickles at home, and Mrs. Fred Millard of Birmingham; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral was at the Pedrick Funeral Home at Douds at 3 p.m. Tuesday; Rev. Kenneth Carr and Rev. Tony Ross; Bethlehem cemetery at Eldon.
