Died at her home four miles southeast of Keosauqua in Vernon township, Van Buren county, Iowa, on Wednesday, April 2, 1890, Mrs. Catharine Rigsby, aged 79 years, 2 months and 19 days.
The deceased whose maiden name was Anson was born near the city of Louisville, Jefferson county, Kentucky, on June 11, 1811. In the year 1823 she removed with her parents to Pike county, Missouri where she was united in marriage to Mr. Isaac Rigsby in the year 1833.
In the year 1837 she removed with her husband to this county and settled on the Des Moines river four miles west of Vernon and continued to reside in the near vicinity of the old home place for over 53 years. In the year 1846 her husband was taken from her by the hand of death, leaving to her the care and support of six small children, three sons and three daughters.
Right, nobly and well did she discharge the duty thus made to devolve upon her, and single-handed and alone she fought the battle of life and was enabled to rear her little family to manhood and womanhood and lived to see the entire six married and settled in life. She was a woman of more than ordinary industry and kindness of heart and more than one of her neighbors and friends have occasion to remember these traits of her character with loving gratitude.
The funeral occurred on Thursday afternoon April 3 [1890], from the Center Chapel M.E. church of which society she was a loved and useful member, the services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. C.W. Wilson.
I am not related, this Obit. is in an old family scrapbook; submitted for those who might have an interest.
