Mrs. Ada Griffin

Mrs. Ada Griffin, daughter of William and Rebecca Posten Waddle, was born September 20, 1884 near Floris, and departed this life Wednesday, March 28, 1973, at Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa at the age of 88. On September 3, 1906, she was married to L.L. Griffin. They farmed in the Troy-Lebanon area until moving to Douds, where they served for many years as custodians of the school building.

Mr. Griffin passed away in 1968. Eleven brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. Remaining to cherish her memory are two daughters, Mrs. Neva Plowman of Buford, Georgia, and Mrs. Josephine Robinson of Douds, four grandchildren, Donald Plowman of Smyrna, Georgia, LeRoy Robinson of Douds, Mrs. Janet Blum of Anna, Illinois and Louis Robinson of Marion, Illinois, nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Lucinda West of Ottumwa, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Her chief concern in life was for her family and to them she was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Funeral services were held Saturday March 31, 1973 at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Millard Marshall of Keosauqua, and the Rev. Earl D. Kelly, pastor, officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Keith A. Smith and Mrs. Robert Pedrick. Jon Finney was the organist. Pall bearers were Donald Bingman, Roy Canaday, Earl Chader, Morris Finney, Raymond Finney and Forrest Hanshaw. Interment was in Leando Cemetery.
