Harold Linge

Harold Linge, son of Nels T. and Fredericka Anderson Linge, was born November 20, 1901, in Emmet County, Ia., and departed this life Thursday, March 15, 1973 at the Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua at the age of 71.

His early life was spent in construction work in northern Iowa. In 1929 he moved to Douds and was one of the founders of the Douds Stone Quarry. He served as superintendent of Douds Quarries, Inc. for twenty years. He later operated the Van Buren Oil Co. for a number of years and from 1957 until his retirement in 1966 he operated a farm west of Douds and served as a member of the Van Buren County Board of Supervisors.

On September 7, 1929, he was married to Elizabeth Teeter at Eldon. Their married life was spent in the Douds community. She remains to cherish his memory along with their daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Pecora of Boise, Idaho, their two sons, Bob of Washington and Jack of Des Moines, five grandchildren, three brothers, Marvin of Armstrong, Ivan of Estherville and T.N. of Lorimor, two sisters, Mrs. Leulla Mack of Verndale, Minn., and Mrs. Elizabeth Reinhardt of Dolliver, Ia., other relatives and many friends. Two infant sons and a brother, Leo, preceded him in death.

"Ching" as he was known to his friends served several years on the Douds School Board and was a long-time member of Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient Fred and Accepted Masons at Douds. He had belonged to the Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar and Shrine until ill health made his participation in their activities impossible.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his home and family, and his loyalty to his beliefs, and his determination to overcome the adversities of life.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17, 1973 at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Gerald Caughron of Milton officiating. Mrs. Max Caves was the pianist. Pall bearers were T.O. Nutt, George Sellers, Wallace Benge, James Hootman, John W. Boyer, and Aaron Fellows. Interment was in the Eldon cemetery with Masonic graveside rites in charge of Celestial Lodge.
