MARY CATHERINE JONES

Mary Catherine Jones, 52, of Schaumburg, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 23 at Schaumburg. She was born at Bonaparte on March 20, 1920, the daughter of Thomas and Bessie Coats Gardner.

She received her education in the Bonaparte schools and was salutatorian of her class in 1937. She attended Wm. Penn College in Oskaloosa and taught school in the Keswick and Garden Grove schools.

She was married to Herbert W. Jones on Sept. 1, 1940 at Trenton, Mo. She is survived by her husband, one son, Harry Warren Jones of Roselle, Ill. and three grandchildren.

After moving to Roselle she attended Testalozzi-Froebel College and taught in various schools in the Chicago area until 1957 when the family moved to Schaumburg. She received her masters degree in guidance counselling at Northern Illinois University at DeKalb. She was a charter member and 1st president of Gamma Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and at the time of her death was . . . . . .

Mrs. Herbert Jones

Mrs. Mary Kathryn Jones, 52, nee Gardner, of 179-A Schaumburg Rd., Schaumburg, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 22 in Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village, after an extended illness. She was born March 20, 1920, in Bonaparte, Iowa.

Private family services were held Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Martin Funeral Home, Ltd., 333 S. Roselle Rd., Roselle, Ill. Burial was Saturday afternoon, Oct. 28 in Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington, Iowa.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert; son, Harry (Casey) Jones of Schaumburg; three grandchildren; her parents, Thomas Gardner of Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Bessie Coats Gardner of Burlington, Iowa; two brothers, Delbert R. Gardner of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Robert Gardner of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Clarice Daum of Fort Madison, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Gardner.

Prior to Mrs. Jones' illness at the end of the 1971-72 school year, she had been teacher and guidance counselor at the Robert Frost Junior High School in Schaumburg. She joined the Schaumburg School Dist. 54 in 1957, having taught at Fairview and Lakeview Elementary Schools, both in Schaumburg.

Mrs. Jones received her B.E. degree from Pestolozzi-Froebel College in Chicago, and her masters degree from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. She was a chartered member and first president of Gamma Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Society. She was also a member of several state and local guidance societies. Recently Mrs. Jones had developed and published articles on "New Approach to Career Guidance" and her final article is to appear in the November issue of the Illinois Guidance Personnel Association.

Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Mrs. Mary Kathryn Jones in care of the Roselle State Bank, 106 E. Irving Park Rd., Roselle, Illinois. Funds will be used for a community project benefiting Schaumburg youth.
