Mrs. Robert Van Patten

Mrs. Lula G. Van Patten, 82, rural route 3, Fairfield, died Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2:45 a.m. at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua. She had been in failing health several years.

Last rites were held Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester C. Werft officiating. Burial was in Sixteen Cemetery at What Cheer.

Lula Van Patten was born Dec. 25, 1889, at What Cheer, the daughter of Joseph and Cora Brower Mayer. She was married April 28, 1909, to Robert Van Patten, who survives.

She had lived in the Fairfield Community for the past 12 years and was a member of the Bonaparte Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband she is survived by four sons and three daughters: Richard and Lloyd Van Patten, both of Ukiah, Calif.; Syrl Van Patten, Redwood Valley, Calif.; Dwayne Van Patten, Hamilton, Ohio; Mrs. Ada Brooks and Mrs. Lucille Brooks, both of Redwood Valley, Calif.; and Mrs. Phyllis Keller, Fairfield.

Other survivors include 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Mayer of Des Moines; two sisters, Elsie Danner of What Cheer and Lucille Robertson, who lives in Virginia.

Mrs. Van Patten was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, two sisters and a brother.
